V40 SKELETON ROCK GRAPPLE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN V40 AND V50 GRAPPLES?
The design is similar, with the V40 Skeleton Rock grapples utilizing slightly different hydraulic plumbing options, overall dimensions, and tine designs. The grade of steel and amount of weld is different in areas as well. Virnig uses at least grade 50 steel on all attachments, and a full 1 year warranty ensures that all quality is as expected. See the comparison chart for more information.
IS THE TINE SPACING THE SAME ON THE V40 AS THE V50 SKELETON ROCK GRAPPLE?
Both attachments have a 2.9” tine spacing. However, on the V40 Skeleton Rock Grapple every other tine alternates between 2 piece welded and full laser cut, while the V50 Skeleton Rock Grapple has every tine full laser cut.
WILL THE SKELETON GRAPPLE’S HYDRAULIC PLUMBING FIT MY SKID STEER?
Virnig’s Skeleton Grapples can be configured either to the center or left and use one length of hose for all configurations. Alternate routing will be required for use on different brands because of design differences in the skid steer loader.
WHAT IS A TWO-CYLINDER, INDEPENDENT SKID STEER GRAPPLE AND WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
This type of skid steer grapple has two individual jaws with separate cylinders. Each jaw works independently of the other. The hydraulic system allows operators to securely clamp debris that has uneven surfaces, while keeping consistent pressure on the entire load. Independent grapples keep oddly-sized objects tightly secured in the skid steer bucket during transport.
ARE HOSES INCLUDED WITH THIS GRAPPLE?
The hoses, couplers*, cylinders, and fittings are included with all Virnig skid steer grapples.
*Couplers not included with Compact Tractor grapples.
WHAT GRAPPLE WIDTH SHOULD I PURCHASE?
Typically, the grapple bucket width should be larger than the width of the loader.
The material to be handled by the grapple also needs to be taken into account. For example, logs can be handled easier with a wider grapple whereas dense items like rocks may overload the machine when using a large grapple. To prevent potential overloading issues, compare the loader’s lifting capacity and tipping weight to the weight of the attachment plus the estimated weight of a load. Different materials will change the estimated weight of a load.
If you are unsure about what width to purchase, contact a local Virnig dealer or call Virnig at 800-648-2408.

WHY ORDER CYLINDER GUARDS?
Cylinder guards are inexpensive insurance against damage to the most crucial part of a skid steer grapple. They prevent damage in multiple ways; dirt and debris is blocked from the cylinder rods, hydraulic fittings are protected, heavy objects are deflected from falling on the cylinder, and they offer shielding on all four sides.
Virnig Frequently Asked Questions
HOW DO I PURCHASE VIRNIG ATTACHMENTS?
Virnig sells mini skid steer, compact tractor, and skid steer attachments through a network of independently owned dealers throughout the United States and Canada. Call 800-648-2408 for assistance in finding a dealer or use the online Dealer Finder.
WHAT TYPE OF ATTACHMENT INTERFACE/HOOKUP DOES VIRNIG USE?
All Virnig skid steer attachments are manufactured with a universal mount to fit most skid steer loaders. The mounting frame is built to ISO 24410 and SAE J2513 standards.
All Virnig mini skid steer attachments are manufactured with a Toro®/mini universal mount, Bobcat® mount, or ASV® mount.
WHAT IS THE SETUP TIME FOR A VIRNIG ATTACHMENT?
Most Virnig attachments are ready to work right off the pallet.
To minimize setup time, Virnig Manufacturing requires the machine brand and model to be listed in every order for attachments with hydraulic components. This ensures proper hose length, routing, and coupler sizing. In addition, all hydraulic Virnig Attachments are tested for leaks and proper operation before leaving the factory. There may be specific scenarios in which additional setup time will be required.
HOW QUICKLY CAN I GET REPLACEMENT PARTS?
Most parts for Virnig skid steer attachments are available in-stock and can be shipped as early as the same day the order is received. Fabricated and back ordered parts are available with a reasonable lead time. Virnig uses several shipping options to provide timely and cost effective delivery to customers.
Check with a local Virnig dealer for replacement part availability.
WHAT WARRANTY DOES VIRNIG OFFER?
All Virnig parts and attachments are warranted for one year from the end user’s date of purchase, or the dealer’s date of first rental/demonstration. If the warranty period has expired, a sales receipt or first rental slip will be required for warranty consideration.
WHY DOES VIRNIG USE NITROSTEEL® CYLINDER RODS?
Virnig uses NitroSteel® cylinder rods because they are a superior performing alternative to chrome plating. The finish offers improved corrosion resistance and better grease retention.
Chrome plated cylinder rods can flake or pit and destroy the seals or other internal components; resulting in downtime and expensive repairs.
A NitroSteel® rod will perform better and increase the service life of a cylinder, making it the cost-effective choice. Learn more about the benefits of the NitroSteel® process.
