The jaws open 11 ½”, but the maximum size of tree that can be removed will vary greatly depending on the size of the skid steer, type of tree, and ground conditions. Consult with your local Virnig dealer or contact Virnig at 800-648-2408 if unsure if the Tree Puller is right for your application.
Place the jaws as close to the ground as possible with the right, fixed jaw up against the post. Slowly close the left jaw onto the fence post and lift straight up. If the post does not loosen then gently move the skid steer loader back and forth to loosen the post and try lifting straight up again.
1/2” Grade 80 laser cut steel. Others often use use A36 steel. Grade 80 steel has a yield strength 2.2 times that of A36 steel. Additionally, every other tooth is gusseted to provide rigidity. These attributes allow the Virnig Tree Puller jaw to outperform inferior steel designs, even if they are thicker.
Yes, there is a hard stop at the tip of the jaw of the tree puller, leaving a small space between the teeth.
The couplers on the Tree Puller are not designed to connect under pressure. If hydraulic pressure is not relieved before removing the lines, the couplers can be difficult to connect/disconnect. Users can also relieve pressure by loosening the coupler on the line. Note: this will likely be messy as the lines are full of hydraulic fluid.
It is possible the couplers are damaged and in this case, replacement is necessary. To test, attempt to connect the couplers to each other while no pressure is in the line. If they cannot, the couplers are likely bad. If they can, the couplers may not be the issue and you should contact your local Virnig dealer or Virnig at 800-648-2408 for troubleshooting.

All Virnig parts and attachments are warranted for one year from the end user’s date of purchase, or the dealer’s date of first rental/demonstration. If the warranty period has expired, a sales receipt or first rental slip will be required for warranty consideration.
Virnig uses NitroSteel® cylinder rods because they are a superior performing alternative to chrome plating. The finish offers improved corrosion resistance and better grease retention.
Chrome plated cylinder rods can flake or pit and destroy the seals or other internal components; resulting in downtime and expensive repairs.
A NitroSteel® rod will perform better and increase the service life of a cylinder, making it the cost-effective choice. Learn more about the benefits of the NitroSteel® process.
