V50 ROTARY BRUSH CUTTER (STANDARD AND FLOATING) FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS THE V50 ROTARY BRUSH CUTTER’S BEST APPLICATION?
Virnig V50 Rotary Brush Cutters are designed to clear undergrowth and cut small trees up to 4” in diameter. Rotary Brush Cutters can also be equipped with a floating deck, rear roller, and swivel casters to give a more finished look when mowing grass and brush.
WHY DO I NEED A SHATTERPROOF CAB ON MY LOADER?
V50 Rotary Brush Cutters are capable of throwing debris over 200 feet and can cause serious bodily harm or death if not used with a shatterproof cab.
DO I NEED CASTERS/ROLLER?
Swivel Casters and a Rear Roller will help produce a better cut, a smoother ride, and limit gouging/scalping. These options also provide extra value by minimizing wear on the underside of the skid steer brush cutter frame and skid shoes. Pair with a floating deck to maximize effectiveness.
DOES THE V50 ROTARY BRUSH CUTTER CUT BI-DIRECTIONALLY?
No. Running the flywheel system in reverse will cause the cutter to cut poorly, easily stall, and have minimal torque.
The V50 Rotary Brush Cutter is designed to spin counter-clockwise and takes 7-10 seconds to slow down. If the flywheel is running in reverse, slow down will be much faster and very loud.
Operating the V50 Rotary Brush Cutter’s flywheel in counter-clockwise is essential for proper operation and preventing damage to the cutter’s blades and motor.
HOW IMPORTANT IS A QUALITY SPINDLE?
The spindle is the most expensive performance component on a skid steer brush cutter. It is responsible for smoothly transferring power from the hydraulic motor to the flywheel and absorbing impact that could damage the hydraulic motor.
High-performance skid steer brush cutters require heavy-duty spindles to ensure reliability and productivity. Virnig understands this requirement by using forged spindle shaft with USA made bearings on all V50 Rotary Brush Cutter models.
IF I HAVE A LOADER WITH A STANDARD AND HIGH FLOW OPTION, WHICH V50 ROTARY BRUSH CUTTER SHOULD I ORDER?
Generally, higher GPM is better. Higher GPM provides more torque which prevents the cutter from losing power as easily and allows the cutter to return to cutting speed faster. There may be situations in which this is not true. Contact a local Virnig dealer for more information.
WHAT IS THE BENEFIT OF THE FLOATING DECK?
The floating deck provides a more consistent cut on uneven terrain. The floating deck also helps prevent scalping and gouging of the ground. In situations where the floating deck is not needed, it can easily be locked out with two bolts, which are provided.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE V50 ROTARY BRUSH CUTTER AND THE V60 INDUSTRIAL ROTARY CUTTER?
The V50 Rotary Brush Cutter’s three-blade flywheel system is about 200 pounds lighter than a V60 Industrial Rotary Cutter, which also has an additional fourth blade.
The V50 Rotary Brush Cutter can be paired with an optional Rear Roller or Swivel Casters. These options are not available for the V60 Industrial Rotary Cutter.
The V50 Standard Deck Rotary Brush Cutter is 300-800 pounds lighter than an V60 Industrial Rotary Cutter.
WHAT PROTECTS THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM FROM PRESSURE SPIKES?
Standard pressure relief valves protect the motor and the loader’s hydraulic system from damaging pressure spikes. When the maximum pressure point is reached, the valve opens to prevent pressure from rising any further. This prevents seals or other internal components from breaking due to excessive pressure.
WHAT WIDTH SHOULD I PURCHASE?
For efficient operation, purchase a skid steer brush cutter with a cut width that is wider than the tires or tracks of your loader.
Loader capacity should also be considered. Selecting a skid steer attachment that is too wide will add weight and increase cutting surface area, these factors could affect performance.
WHAT MOTOR FLOW RATE SHOULD I PURCHASE?
The brush cutter motor flow rate should be optimized to match the skid steer’s flow rate. These are measured in gallons per minute (GPM). Running a higher GPM than the brush cutter motor is rated for can potentially damage the motor and will void the warranty. All Virnig skid steer attachments with hydraulic motors have a zero overflow rating to prevent premature failure.
Virnig Frequently Asked Questions
HOW DO I PURCHASE VIRNIG SKID STEER ATTACHMENTS?
Virnig sells skid steer attachments through a network of independently owned dealers. Call 800-648-2408 for assistance in finding a dealer or use the online Dealer Finder.
Virnig uses NitroSteel® rods because they are a superior performing alternative to chrome plating. The finish offers improved corrosion resistance and better grease retention.
Chrome plated cylinder rods can flake or pit and destroy the seals or other internal components; resulting in downtime and expensive repairs.
A NitroSteel® rod will perform better and increase the service life of a cylinder, making it the cost-effective choice.
WHAT IS THE SETUP TIME FOR A VIRNIG SKID STEER ATTACHMENT?
Most Virnig attachments are ready to work right off the pallet.
To minimize set up time, Virnig Manufacturing requires the machine brand and model to be listed on each order for attachments with hydraulic components to ensure proper hose length, routing, and coupler sizing. In addition, all hydraulic Virnig Attachments are tested for leaks and proper operation before leaving the factory. There may be specific scenarios in which additional setup time will be required.
HOW QUICKLY CAN I GET REPLACEMENT PARTS?
Most parts for Virnig skid steer attachments are available in-stock and can be shipped as early as the same day the order is received. Fabricated and back ordered parts are available with a reasonable lead time. Virnig uses several shipping options to provide timely and cost effective delivery to customers.
Virnig Manufacturing, Inc. products are warranted to be free from defects, in workmanship, for one year from the end user’s date of purchase.
