V60 Hydraulic Snow Blade/Pusher Frequently Asked Questions

CAN I ADJUST THE TRIP EDGE TENSION OR CAN IT BE LOCKED OUT?

The tension is set by the springs and is non-adjustable. The edge cannot be locked out because if an object is hit hard enough the edge is designed to trip. Locking out the trip edge could damage the attachment, the skid steer, or worse the operator. Locking out the trip edge should never be done.

WHY DOES VIRNIG USE A TRIP EDGE INSTEAD OF THE ENTIRE BLADE?

With full blade trip, when hitting a short obstacle such as a manhole cover or curb, the entire blade will roll over. Small objects will cause the skid steer to slow down and could make plowing much more disruptive. Virnig uses trip-edges with a rigid moldboard to minimize these plowing interruptions and provide safety. Virnig Snow Blades are designed to trip in all positions.

HOW DO I KEEP THE CUTTING EDGE FROM TRIPPING ON GRAVEL OR DIRT?

Because trip edge integrity is determined by down pressure, it is difficult to properly use your plow on unpacked dirt or gravel without destroying the surface. By using the machine tilt and arms to keep the blade slightly above the ground, you will build a base of hard packed snow and ice. Once the hard pack is set, down pressure may be applied. This is the most effective method to keep the edge from tripping.

When plowing on asphalt or concrete, raise or remove the plow shoes so the cutting edge will scrape as close to the surface as possible.

WHAT MAKES A VIRNIG SKID STEER SNOW BLADE MORE DURABLE THAN ITS COMPETITION?

Virnig generally uses heavier cylinders, thicker moldboard steel, larger and thicker cutting edges, and they’re built with more structural support.

What width should I purchase for the V60 Hydraulic Snow Blade/Pusher?

There are a number of factors to consider when purchasing an HSBP. Below is a guide to help.

  1. Consider the loader’s operating capacity. For all V60 Hydraulic Snow Blade/Pusher Combo models, Virnig recommends at least 1800 lbs in operating capacity.
  2. The overall size of your loader and type of tire or track. Some smaller loaders may have the lift capacity to use an HSBP but cannot push the weight of a fully loaded HSBP144 or HSBP156. Some do not have snow tracks or tires and cannot get proper traction. In both of these cases, an HSBP120 or HSBP132 is recommended.
  3. Trailer size. An HSBP156 is 11’ wide at full scoop and not every trailer is designed to handle a blade that wide. See the spec table for dimension on each model.
  4. The size of the area to be plowed. If the area is a parking lot a wider attachment like the HSBP156 with more volume will increase your efficiency (provided the above factors are met). If the area to plow is a driveway, then a narrower model such as the HSBP120 or HSBP132 may be a better fit.
HOW DO THE VIRNIG FLOATING FRAME LINK AND OSCILLATION WORK?

The quick tach frame and knuckle plate are connected with two pins on the right and left side that allow the Snow Blade/Pusher to float forward and back up to 5 degrees. The knuckle plate and floating link frame are connected by a large pin that gives the blade 4 degrees of rotational oscillation. This system allows the blade to travel across uneven areas and still maintain solid contact with the ground. This is best achieved with the skid loader quick tach angle in a neutral position to prevent premature wear with the wings in a forward position.

HOW DOES THE V60 HYDRAULIC SNOW BLADE/PUSHER COMBO CYCLE THROUGH POSITIONS?

All control of the HSBP blade angle is done with the machine auxiliary hydraulics. The HSBP uses electric over auxiliary controls to actuate the wings. By holding down one of the electric auxiliary override buttons and then engaging the hydraulic flow detent, each wing can be controlled individually with an electric hydraulic valve. If the loader does not have electric, a universal control box adapter can be equipped to allow full control of their HSBP wings. With this configuration you cannot move both wings at the same time.

CAN I USE THE VIRNIG SNOW BLADE/PUSHER TO DOZE/GRADE DIRT?

No. Virnig recommends that you should never use this skid steer attachment on anything other than snow.

WHY DOES VIRNIG USE NITROSTEEL® CYLINDER RODS?

Virnig uses NitroSteel® cylinder rods because they are a superior performing alternative to chrome plating. The finish offers improved corrosion resistance and better grease retention.

Chrome plated cylinder rods can flake or pit and destroy the seals or other internal components; resulting in downtime and expensive repairs.

A NitroSteel® rod will perform better and increase the service life of a cylinder, making it the cost-effective choice. Learn more about the benefits of the NitroSteel® process.
