V50 Auger Drive Frequently Asked Questions

WHY DOES VIRNIG MANUFACTURING USE A PLANETARY GEAR REDUCTION SPINDLE OVER DIRECT DRIVE?

Virnig Auger Drives use a planetary system gear reduction bearing spindle to evenly distribute torque and stress. Planetary gear spindles amplify the torque of the hydraulic motor and give the Auger Drive smooth and powerful drilling.

CAN I USE MY AUGER DRIVE WITH HIGH FLOW?

Only if the high flow rating is 25 gpm or less. Operating at higher than capacity can cause catastrophic failure. All Virnig auger motors are rated for 15-25 gpm with zero overflow tolerance. Operating at higher than 25 gpm will void the warranty.

WHAT PROTECTS THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM FROM PRESSURE SPIKES?

All Virnig Auger Drives are equipped with a pressure relief valve to prevent damage from pressure during drilling.

WHAT TOOTH OPTIONS DOES VIRNIG OFFER FOR BITS?

Virnig offers Wisdom Gage teeth, Wisdom teeth, and Carbide Wisdom teeth for all purpose applications. Standard Chisel teeth and Carbide Chisel teeth are available for hard, more compacted ground. Standard replacement Fishtail Points and heavy-duty Carbide Fishtail Points are also available.

WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM SIZE AUGER BIT THE V40 & V50 AUGER DRIVE CAN USE?

For best drilling results, the V40 Auger Drive is designed to use bits up to 30” in diameter and up to 48” long, and the V50 Auger Drive is designed to use bits up to 36” in diameter and up to 48” long. Using a larger or longer auger bit can damage the drive gear spindle or motor and will void the warranty.

DOES THE AUGER DRIVE USE A HEX OR ROUND OUTPUT AND WHY?

Auger Drives have a 2” hex drive. Virnig uses a hex drive because it is less likely to slip while drilling. The force is on the hex interface instead of a shear pin resulting in more reliable performance.

What Type of Attachment Interface/Hookup Does Virnig Use?

All Virnig skid steer attachments are manufactured with a universal mount to fit most skid steer loaders. The mounting frame is built to ISO 24410 and SAE J2513 standards.

All Virnig mini skid steer attachments are manufactured with a Toro®/mini universal mount, Bobcat® mount, or ASV® mount.

What is the Setup Time for a Virnig Attachment?

Most Virnig attachments are ready to work right off the pallet.

To minimize setup time, Virnig Manufacturing requires the machine brand and model to be listed in every order for attachments with hydraulic components. This ensures proper hose length, routing, and coupler sizing. In addition, all hydraulic Virnig Attachments are tested for leaks and proper operation before leaving the factory. There may be specific scenarios in which additional setup time will be required.

HOW QUICKLY CAN I GET REPLACEMENT PARTS?

Most parts for Virnig skid steer attachments are available in-stock and can be shipped as early as the same day the order is received. Fabricated and back ordered parts are available with a reasonable lead time. Virnig uses several shipping options to provide timely and cost effective delivery to customers.

Check with a local Virnig dealer for replacement part availability.

WHAT WARRANTY DOES VIRNIG OFFER?

All Virnig parts and attachments are warranted for one year from the end user’s date of purchase, or the dealer’s date of first rental/demonstration. If the warranty period has expired, a sales receipt or first rental slip will be required for warranty consideration.

WHY DOES VIRNIG USE NITROSTEEL® CYLINDER RODS?

Virnig uses NitroSteel® cylinder rods because they are a superior performing alternative to chrome plating. The finish offers improved corrosion resistance and better grease retention.

Chrome plated cylinder rods can flake or pit and destroy the seals or other internal components; resulting in downtime and expensive repairs.

A NitroSteel® rod will perform better and increase the service life of a cylinder, making it the cost-effective choice. Learn more about the benefits of the NitroSteel® process.
